I write. I read. My first novel, Mad Kestrel, is available in bookstores now.
I'm a Southern girl, born and raised. I am blissfully married to my best friend, the charming
philipmcavery. My teenaged son, herein referred to as the Beetle, is a huge reader, the bane of my sanity and the joy of my life.
I also have a few things to say, in concert with my buddies
davidbcoe and
faithhunter, on Magical Words. Drop by and see what we're talking about today!
Yes, I have given in and joined the throng on Facebook, if you care to be my friend there. You can follow me on Twitter, too!
My baby grew up!

"The best reaction to a rejection slip is a sort of wild-eyed madness, an evil grin, and sitting yourself in front of the keyboard muttering "Okay, you bastards. Try rejecting this!" and then writing something so unbelievably brilliant that all other writers will disembowel themselves with their pens upon reading it, because there's nothing left to write." - Neil Gaiman
"...chances are I’m going to tick off someone, and I’m okay with that. I once had a reviewer of the third book in my first trilogy say that it was the worst conclusion to a trilogy ever written. I figured if I’d reached this reader so deeply that he felt compelled to trash it so thoroughly, I must have done something right."
--- David B Coe
"You want weapons? We're in a library. Books! Best weapons in the world."
--- The Doctor, 'Tooth and Claw', #202
"Avid readers are quirky and hard to control. They don't mindlessly follow the herd. They don't swallow every whim of political correctness that comes over the transom. They question things. They make discoveries. And they make you really mad when you argue with them because they actually know what they're talking about."
-- Perry Marshall
"Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years too late.
The cannons don't thunder. There's nothin' to plunder...
Mother, mother ocean, after all these years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around."
-- Jimmy Buffet
